VISUAL LITERACY

Peninsula/Fertile Crescent

“To close the gap between you and everything that is not you,

and in this way to pass from feeling to meaning.

It's not something that committees can do.

It's not a task achieved by groups or by movements.

It's done by individuals.

Each person mediating, in some way,

between a sense of history and an experience of the world, this task is literally endless.”

-Robert Hughes

Shock of the New 1980

1. Which question you chose, and how you think this exemplifies or responds to the project prompt as a metaphor, synecdoche or metonymy, or if it addresses all.

Creating a Metonymy was what prompted me to choose this piece.

Although the idea of attributing this to a synecdoche,  appealled to me because There are so many historical events that this image could be attributed to a number of historical events, I wanted to generalize the dirtiness, and absurdity of American culture, and collage it as if it were an amusement park of war sprawled about the Arabian peninsula.

2. Discuss three of your visual choices with respect to how you think they relate to the given convention. In other words why did you make those choices? and why do you think ( or hope ) that they visually communicate what they do.
